Jonas Quinn

General background info

Originally a Kelownan. After standing by and watching Daniel risk his life to save Jonas's people, and later refusing to refute his government's official story that Daniel had been sabotaging an experiment when he was fatally irradiated, Jonas finally decided to steal some naquadria and headed for Earth and the SGC to seek asylum. In the process, he admitted that Daniel had been a hero, not a saboteur. (Meridian)

After three months on Earth, he began suggesting that he should join SG-1 as Daniel's replacement. (Redemption, part 1)

He was brought onto SG-1 at Jack's request, after the program was nearly scuttled by an attack from Anubis that resulted in the destruction of one of the Earth's stargates. Jonas had made some comments that Sam took and ran with, coming up with the idea to boost the stargate off the planet to avoid being destroyed when it exploded. He was also the only choice other than a Russian soldier. (Redemption, part 2)

He (and presumably the other Kelownans, assuming any survived their war) is evolved to something not quite baseline human -- whatever the genetic mutation, it was very appealing to Nirrti, who hoped to use it as a springboard to her goal of a hok'tar to use as a new host. (Metamorphosis)

While in Nirrti's gene-splicing machine (for more than an hour -- Metamorphosis), he was changed somehow. Some time later, he began to develop a mass in his brain that acted like a tumor but wasn't formed of cancerous cells. Something about it gave him precognitive ability -- and massive headaches. Frasier insisted that he have surgery to have it removed, before it killed him. The tumor was made up of material similar to ordinary human brain tissue, but with neurons that were more densely packed. (Prophecy)

Even after nearly a year with SG-1, still felt the need to prove his usefulness. (Prophecy)

Left the SGC to return to Kelowna after Daniel's return. He was no longer considered a traitor -- he was going back to be the Kelownan representative on the Joint Ruling Council with the Tiranians and Andaris, at those two countries's insistence. (Homecoming)

Profession

Career

On Kelowna, he was a Special Advisor to the High Minister (who was the equivalent of a president or prime minister). (Meridian)

Joined SG-1 after three months on Earth, after Daniel's more-or-less death saving Jonas's planet during Meridian left a vacancy open. (Redemption, part 1)

First mission: continuity problem. Ostensibly, his first mission was when the whole team walked through the gate at the end of Redemption part 2. Teal'c later says that the mission to Anubis's supposedly empty ship in Earth orbit is his first mission (Descent).

It's possible that at the end of Redemption pt 2 the team was heading off to meet up with Jacob, but that doesn't make a whole lot of sense -- it would probably be easier to have Jacob meet them on Earth, and in any event there didn't seem to be any urgency about them at the end of Redemption pt. 2, which there would have been had they known a Goa'uld mothership was hanging in orbit. (Descent)

Has been assigned to another unit temporarily at least once: he was with SG-2 to help gather artifacts from P36 231 while the rest of SG-1 was at the alpha site dealing with the fallout from Anubis's attack on the Tok'ra base in the Risa system, and the refugees from that. (Allegiance)

Left the SGC to return to Kelowna after Daniel's return. He was no longer considered a traitor -- he was going back to be the Kelownan representative on the Joint Ruling Council with the Tiranians and Andaris, at those two countries's insistence. (Homecoming)

Pain & Death

Severe injuries

While in Nirrti's gene-splicing machine (for more than an hour -- Metamorphosis), he was changed somehow. Some time later, he began to develop a mass in his brain that acted like a tumor but wasn't formed of cancerous cells. Something about it gave him precognitive ability -- and massive headaches. Severe emotional trauma

Presumably, betraying and abandoning his entire world to join the SGC. (Meridian). But if so, he doesn't show it. (Meridian, Redemption pts. 1&2, Descent, Frozen)

Possessions/controlled

A female-humanoid Replicator basically walked into Jonas's subconscious (via a hand stuck into Jonas's head) and took up residence there for a while, learning as much as possible about what Jonas knew. (Jonas was controlled/unconscious for a combined 37 hours.) Either the same or another Replicator repeated the process shortly after Jonas regained consciousness, knocking him out again. (Unnatural Selection)

Confirmed kills

Note: The team shoots at a lot of people. The people they shoot at generally fall down. That doesn't count as a confirmed kill -- Jaffa, especially, can heal from a lot of apparently fatal wounds. I only count it if someone checks and says "he's dead", or if someone gets zatted twice, or it's otherwise perfectly clear that there's no way this person is getting back up without being brought back from the dead. (If they later come back from the dead, it still counts as a death. It just means they get to have more than one.)

Weapons

Carries a zat, not a pistol. (Descent)

On a world where none of them were carrying zats, he carried an intar, rather than a full working pistol. (Shadowplay)

Carries a live Tau'ri weapon for the first time to face hordes of Replicators, after repeatedly showing Jack that he knows how to use it. (Unnatural Selection)

top | Misc.

Random misc

Not a scientist, but according to tests Fraiser ran, he learns much faster than the average human.

He appears to consider himself competent to understand advanced archaeology and advanced physics/engineering, by simply reading about them. (Redemption, part 1)

He brought naquadria to the SGC (Meridian), and consequently was given access to all naquadria-related research materials. (Redemption, part 1)

Keeps fish in his office. (Shadowplay)

Wears a ring on his right hand, middle finger. (Shadowplay)

Not entirely baseline human -- thousands of years of isolation allowed his people to evolve slightly differently. Nirrti considered Jonas to be much closer to her ideal of a hok'tar than baseline humans. (Metamorphosis)

Answers his base phone "Jonas." (Forsaken)

Considers himself hyper-observant, noticing details others miss, spotting patterns, etc. (Prophecy)

Interrogated by Anubis, who used his huge (relatively speaking) mind probe on him, to no apparent physical ill effect on Jonas. (Homecoming)

Anubis took the information from Jonas's mind and used it to find Kelowna and its stores of naquadria. (Homecoming)

Anubis also gained information about how the Pangarans were using Egeria to spawn symbiotes, and how Egeria was deliberately not passing along her genetic knowledge, to keep them as basically mindless drones. He later used this information in his kull warrior ("supersoldier") research. (Evolution, part 2)
